Are Your Plastic Deli Tubs Food Safe and Freezer Safe?

The simple answer to this question is yes.  All of our plastic tubs or deli tubs are food safe.  We stock sizes from 16 oz to 10 lbs.(160 oz) in white and natural high density polyethylene (HDPE)  and one container (64 oz) in natural polypropylene (PP).  All the lids that we stock for these containers are made of low density polyethylene (LDPE).  We frequently get questions as to whether or not these containers are freezer safe and we are asked what is the hot fill temperature limit of these containers.  As to whether or not our deli tubs are freezer safe, generally all our HDPE tubs can be frozen to -20 degrees F and HDPE has better impact resistance when cold than polypropylene.  Our 64 oz polypropylene tub, however,  is also safe for freezing.  As to whether or not you can fill these tubs with hot product, we advise that HDPE tends to soften around the boiling point of water, around 212 degrees F and we would not suggest you place these in the dishwasher or microwave.  Polypropylene has a greater tolerance for heat, up to about 250 degrees F and is the recommended choice for use in a microwave or dish washer (top rack only).  Our LDPE lids are less heat tolerant and should never be used in a microwave or dish washer.  We also suggest, as always, that you test a container to be sure it meets your requirements.  We would be happy to send a sample for your consideration.  Versatile and low cost, consider the following uses:

  • hot soups
  • chilled salads
  • pasta sauce
  • popcorn
  • party snacks
  • chips
  • paint mixing cups
  • ice buckets
  • pet food
  • toys

Our tubs lock in freshness and are reusable and recyclable making them an excellent choice for storage.
