Tight Head Drums with 2″ Bungs and/or 3/4″ Bungs
Many times we get questions about the bungs or plugs on our plastic and steel tight head (closed head) drums. This article will feature drums from 5 to 55 gallon with either 2″ and/or 3/4″ bungs. Some drums have one bung while others have two bungs. Each drum has a description of the type and size of plug that is included with the drum.
As an example, the black Deldrum shown in the picture at right has two 2″ buttress plugs.
Shown below (before the choice of drums) are pictures of the NPS and Buttress plugs shown side by side for comparison.
Also shown is a bung wrench that fits both 3/4″ and 2″ bungs.

Black polyethylene is not food grade.This is a 5 gallon black blow molded container with an integral handle. The closure on this drum is a 2" buttress plug with a 3/4" NPS (National Pipe Standard) reducer and is included. The rectangular shape and stackable design minimize storage space. While our black delex container is good for light sensitive products, please note that the 2" buttress plug is natural in color and does not block light.

It has a single heavy duty handle which folds down to allow the interlocking head design to work and it is made of blow molded high density polyethylene. It has one 2" Rieke NPT plug with a 3/4" center reducer and one Rieke 3/4" NPT plug. Both plugs have EPDM gaskets. These drums have a stackable interlocking head which is designed for superior storage.

Our blue tight head steel pail with a 2 coat red phenolic lining has one 2" steel plug and one 3/4" pipe thread steel plug. Red phenolic linings are commonly used when transporting or storing agricultural chemicals, flavors and fragrances, acids and organic solvents. This is an FDA compliant pail and can take hot product up to 350 degrees F maximum.
