UN1A1 Packaging
We sell several different steel drums and pails with a UN1A1 designation. The explanation for this is as follows:
- UN = United Nations
- 1 = Drum
- A= Steel
- 1 = Tight Head
We will list all the UN1A1 steel drums and pails we currently stock in this article, however, they all differ in the rest of their UN designation. As an example, some are UN1A1/Y (Packing Group II and III) rated and some are UN1A1/X rated (Packing Group I, II or III). We will group them by X or Y rating below. Also, the following numbers after the X or Y rating, would be maximum specific gravity the drum has been tested to hold for 5 minutes and then maximum hydrostatic pressure the container has been tested to hold for 5 minutes.
Although these drums are UN rated, they may also be used for non-hazardous product.

5 Gallon 2 Coat Green Phenolic Gray Steel Round 24 GA Item: SPC0005CS3L011 UN Rating: UN1A1/X1.6/300 Opening: Tight Head Rieke Opening Pack: 36 Our 5 gallon gray steel pail with a 2 coat green phenolic lining is a tight head pail with Rieke opening. It has a hole covered with a dust cap. Pails are shipped empty, with the dust cap on, so they remain clean. The end user fills the pail and then crimps on a Rieke Flexspout (sold separately). A Rieke Flexspout is a retractable plastic pour spout which offers a reliable and tamper evident seal. When the spout is closed, it has a low profile for ease of stacking. The tamper evident cap has a pull tab for fast removal. Once the Flexspout is crimped on, and before the first use, the cap is pulled off the spout and cannot be reattached. 5 Gallon Blue Steel Round 0.5mm 24 GA Item: SPC0005CS4U006 UN Rating: 1A1/X1.6/250 Opening: Tight Head Pack: 36 MINIMUM ORDER QUANTITY 1,000 Our 5 gallon blue tight head steel pail, unlined with a rust inhibitor, has one 2" steel plug and one 3/4" Rieke Visegrip II steel plug with irradiated PE gaskets. 5 Gallon Red Phenolic Blue Steel Round 0.5mm 24 GA Item: SPC0005CS4L002 UN Rating: UN1A1/X1.6/250 Opening: Tight Head Pack: 36 MINIMUM ORDER QUANTITY 1,000 Our blue tight head steel pail with a 2 coat red phenolic lining has one 2" steel plug and one 3/4" pipe thread steel plug. Red phenolic linings are commonly used when transporting or storing agricultural chemicals, flavors and fragrances, acids and organic solvents. 5 Gallon Black Steel Round 24 GA Item: SPC0005CS2U013 UN Rating: 1A1/Y1.8/100 Opening: Tight Head Pack: 36 Our 5 gallon black steel unlined pail has a 2 1/8 inch screw cap and a spout. Some of our customers use this pail to transport hot oil, approximately 250 degrees F. The inner seal is included but is not attached to the pail. Once applied, the inner seal can be lifted off and the push/pull spout can be lifted up. A funnel can then be placed in the opening for ease of pouring. UN1A1/Y1.8/240 |

It is black in color with a white top. The cover does not come off. It has a 2 inch and a 3/4 inch steel plug with polyethylene gaskets. It has a rust inhibitor. This type of drum is commonly used for storage of grease or similar liquids. |
